The Canned Tidbits series brings you snacks from around the world
Canned foods that can be used as snacks, that is "Can-Tsuma".
We have made a side dish out of ingredients that are delicious only because they are canned. Sardines are often served as tapas in Spanish bars (bars). The sardines are marinated in oil and the flavor is locked in, and when heated, the fluffy meat falls apart in your mouth and the flavor spreads.
In Spanish bars, tapas are served when you order a drink. Northern Spain is especially famous for its large variety and quantity of tapas, and sardines are a typical example. Sardines are eaten as canapés with red peppers, as bocadillos (sandwiches with baguettes), or with boiled potatoes. In Galicia, it is customary to eat grilled sardines during the festival of San Juan, which heralds the arrival of summer.
